Building the Future of Rural Health - 4th Annual Rural Health Conference

Conference partners The Rural Clinical School of Western Australia and Rural Health West invite you to be part of this the fourth annual Rural Clinical School conference and inaugural joint conference with Rural Health West, the Western Australian rural workforce agency. This year the conference will be held in Broome in collaboration with the Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Council and the Kimberley Division of GPs.The aim of the Conference is to provoke discussion on important issues in Indigenous health and in rural health more generally. Papers presenting research on: clinical and population health in rural and remote areas; workforce and training; and on policy and programs aimed at decreasing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health disadvantage are encouraged.

Online Cultural Orientation Plan for Health Professionals
Many health professionals have little or no knowledge of the post-colonial legacies and cultural values of Aboriginal people, yet the impact of poor understanding undermines respect and compounds communication barriers. The Cultural Orientation Plan, inclusive of information, videos, activities and links to further resources, consists of five self directed learning modules: • Culture, self and diversity• Aboriginal history
• Working with Aboriginal people
• Providing clinical services
• Improving cultural security

PHCRED Fellowship Grants 2010
Do you have an idea or a passion that you would like to turn into a research or evaluation project? CUCRH, as part of the Department of Health and Ageing Primary Health Care Research, Evaluation and Development Program, has a number of Fellowships to offer throughout WA in 2010, ranging from $10,000 to $20,000.These are: 2 Fellowships for Aboriginal Primary Health Care workers, 1 Fellowship for a Remote Area Practitioner, and 2 Fellowships for Primary Health Care workers in any rural area of WA
CUCRH can assist with turning your ideas into a research or evaluation question, providing a mentor to guide you through the research process, interpreting data and writing up your results and attendance at a conference related to your area of research.
